Abstract

Metrological characteristics of ultrasonic flowmeters depend on a number of factors, such as meter installation effects, inlet pipe wall roughness, flow rate and viscosity of the fluid, flow and environment temperatures, etc. Innovative triangular cross section duct is suggested in the paper. Results of computer simulation of velocity profiles are presented. It is shown that triangular cross section duct has a number of advantages with comparison with other known ducts. It has been proved by experimental investigation of ultrasonic flowmeter with triangular cross section. The results demonstrate that the suggested technical solution allows to significantly expand the dynamic range of ultrasonic flowmeter without decreasing the accuracy. A European patent application for innovative technical solution was registered in 2005.
