Abstract

Concentration dependences of ultrasound velocity and adiabatic compressibility of aqueuos solutions of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol 300 and polyethylene glycol 400 have been studied in the temperature range 10 to 40oC. It has been observed that ultrasound velocity and adiabatic compressibility of the mixtures in the narrow interval of concentration are independent on the temperature. The hydration which is expressed by the amount of moles of water per mole of glycol was determined by measuring the maximum of ultrasound velocity in a parabolic function of glycol concentration.. The temperature dependences of hydration are interpreted by the effect of a destruction of water structure. It has been found that a hydration effect increases with increasing temperature and of the number of -CH2 groups in a glycol molecule.
