Abstract

The human carotid artery wall intima-media layers thickness (IMT) non-invasive measurements peculiarities are described in the article. Findings in the structure of carotid artery walls are very actual for evaluating cardiovascular system. High resolution ultrasound B-mode images are used for measurements. Main algorithms used for IMT measurements are reviewed. Three algorithms and user interface in Matlab programming environment were implemented and evaluated. The algorithm, based on image maximal gradient proposed for IMT measurements.
