Abstract

Lifts for carrying of people and cargo are used widely in modern construction of buildings. Even though modern lifts, as compared to other sources of noise, operate quietly, however, their moving in the elevation shafts cause low-frequency vibrations and noise of appropriate frequency is radiated. Vibrations emitted are transferred to adjacent premises and radiate undesirable noise. Theoretical and experimental investigations showed that constructions of cylindrical form insulate low-frequency noise propagated from inside.

The present report covers theoretical aspects allowing one to forecast the reduction of low-frequency vibrations and noise with the application of the appropriate cylindrical housings (shafts). Several different methods of calculation may be applied, depending on the implementation of the recommended construction. Our recommended calculation methods may be applied on the basis of the sound excitation principle and its propagation in the cylindrical housing, because in multi-apartment houses lift shafts may be of several tenth metres in height.
